Midwest Industrial Tool Grinding Inc. has increased its standard cutting tool product line by more than 500 percent.

By combining increased manufacturing capacity with in-house coating, MITGI is able to fulfill standard product orders within three days. The new standard line will be featured in the spring 2015 edition of the MITGI catalog, scheduled for release in mid-May. The new category will feature about 4,200 tools, up from approximately 600 tools now.

“Many of our customers face aggressive production schedules. One of their biggest obstacles is the ability to get the tools they need in time to match the schedule,” MITGI General Manager Eric Lipke said. “By increasing the number of tools included in our standard line, we can manufacture and ship the standard tools our customers need while meeting or exceeding their delivery expectations.”

While some of the new standard tools are former customized tools now standardized, most of the growth is the result of offering more types of tools.

Hutchinson-based MITGI manufactures and markets standard and custom cutting tools. Combining innovation with quality and repeatability, MITGI tools have become the product of choice in many research and development departments and manufacturing facilities that serve the medical, automotive, computer, and aerospace industries.

Owner Jim Schaufler started MITGI in a small Stewart building in 1993. It moved to Hutchinson Technology Inc.’s former training center along Bluff Street in late 2010.

MITGI is the 2014 recipient of the Image Award (Minnesota Business Magazine Manufacturing Award) and a 2015 recipient of Minnesota Business Magazine’s 100 Best Companies to Work For Award.
