Eight U.S. Postal Service carriers from Litchfield participated in the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive Saturday, where carriers from around the country collect food shelf donations from homeowners along their mail routes.
Litchfield letter carriers collected 2,838 pounds of food Saturday, all of which was delivered to Meeker County Emergency Food Shelf.
When Litchfield carriers collected food donations for the first time 19 years ago, they received 170 pounds; last year, they received about 1,400 pounds.
“It's grown by a lot. We are exceedingly happy,” said mail carrier Dean Krug. “It was a team effort, not just by the Post Office but by the city of Litchfield.”
