Avery Liestman scored 16 points and Tyson Michels added 14 as Litchfield handled Maple Lake 66-40 Thursday in its season opener.

The Dragons were in control from the outset, leading 10-2, saw a brief challenge by Maple Lake that tied the game at 10-10, then methodically pulled away for the easy win at Litchfield High School gym.

Michels, a junior guard, played a well-rounded game, leading Litchfield with five rebounds, five assists, four blocked shots and two steals.

Litchfield next travels to Breck for a game at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Breck is 0-1, having lost its season opener to South St. Paul 69-66 Tuesday.
