There's a notch in the win column for the Litchfield Blues after Wednesday's 9-7 home victory against the Buffalo Bulldogs. The win ended a nine-game losing streak in North Star League play to begin the season for the Blues.
Buffalo jumped out for four runs in the first inning, and added another in the second for a 5-0 lead. Litchfield's offense erupted for eight runs in the second inning, thanks to a combination of walks and timely hits in a small-ball fashion.
The Bulldogs added a run in the third inning and another in the eighth to cut the lead to one, but the Blues responded with one more run in the eighth before putting the game away.
Matt Spreiter had a pair of hits and a walk for the Blues, while Andrew Loch had a hit and two walks. Joey Hyde accounted for two hits and two RBIs to go with allowing one run in 3 2/3 innings in relief on the mound.
Litchfield next plays at 6 p.m. Sunday when it hosts Montrose/Waverly.
