Alan Edgar Alsleben, 55, of Glencoe, passed away Monday, May 20, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe, with interment at Glencoe City Cemetery in Glencoe. A gathering of family and friends will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, two hours prior the service at the church. Officiating will be the Rev. Jon Niebuhr. Organist will be Jan Heins. Soloist will be Julie Stiles performing “Borning Cry.” Congregational hymns will be “Amazing Grace,” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Nearer My God To Thee.” Urn bearers will be Brad Alsleben, Brandon Alsleben, Luke Alsleben, Jared Alsleben, Chad Hoese and Jon Hoese.

Honorary urn bearers will be Steven Groskreutz, Stanton Groskreutz, Stuart Groskreutz, Stefany Butler, Brenda Kraemer, Darron Alsleben, TJ Renstrom, Traci Renstrom, Sara Schreifels, Jennifer McKnight, Michelle McKnight, Ben Danielson and Trevor Danielson.

Alan Edgar Alsleben was born Jan. 14, 1964, in Glencoe. He was the son of Ernest and Lorene (Penk) Alsleben. Alan was baptized as an infant Jan. 26, 1964, by the Rev. George Perlich and later was confirmed in his faith as a youth May 14, 1978, by the Rev. Layton Lemke, both at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe. His confirmation verse was John 14:6. Alan received his education in Glencoe, attending Glencoe High School.

Alan made his home in Glencoe. He lived for farming and helped others milk and farm their land. He also was a carpenter, caretaker for his apartment and cooked at several restaurants including Bump’s Family Restaurant and Biscay Liquors. Alan was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe.

Alan had a big heart and at the end of his life gave a gift of life through eye donation. He enjoyed cooking and would always bring food to others and loved making cookies. Alan also enjoyed snowmobiling and watching Vikings, Twins and Panthers games. He loved socializing and treasured the time spent with his family and friends.

Alan is survived by his siblings, Andrew Alsleben, Arlene Groskreutz and her husband Bob, Anita Renstrom, Arnold Alsleben and his wife Shirley, Amy McKnight and her husband Bill, Angela Lohrenz and her husband Wes and Adam Alsleben and his wife Wanda; sister-in-law Carol Alsleben; and nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Lorene Alsleben; and brother Aaron Alsleben.
