Joan A. Hendricks, 80, of Hutchinson passed away Wednesday, June 12, at Prairie Senior Cottages in Hutchinson. Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, June 17, at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson with interment in the church cemetery. Officiating was the Rev. Paul Wolf. Organist was Bev Wangerin. Song leader was Bobbi Ludewig performing “Canticle of the Turning.” Musical selections were “How Great Thou Art,” “We Walk By Faith,” “We Remember,” “Song of Farewell” and “It Is Well With My Soul.” Casket bearers were Jeff Howell, Jeremy Howell, James Huff, Harry Haanen, Andy Spurlin and Eric Klein.
Joan Alice Hendricks was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Milbank, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Elmer and Alice (Reiman) Hecht. She was baptized and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth. Joan received her education in Wilmot, South Dakota, and was a graduate of the Class of 1956. She then furthered her education at Concordia College in St. Paul, Minnesota, for one year.
On July 1, 1961, Joan was united in marriage to Robert Hendricks at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Barry, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with two children, Joel and Lisa. Joan and Bob resided in Hutchinson. They shared 57 years of marriage until the passing of Robert on May 22, 2019.
Joan was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was employed as a teller at Security State Bank in Beardsley. She was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson.
Joan loved playing and teaching piano, reading, traveling and spending time with children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidery and doing crafts.
When Joan needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident of Prairie Senior Cottages in Hutchinson September 2015. She was well loved and cared for during her time there. Blessed be her memory.
Joan is survived by her son, Joel Hendricks, and his wife, Julie of Crosby; grandchildren, Christopher and Lisa Hendricks; sisters, Donna Larson of Hood River, Oregon, Sandra Huff and her husband Jim of Detroit Lakes and Karen Howell and her husband Steve of Independence; sister-in-law Margaret DeGreef and her husband Philip of Pierre, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Alice Hecht; husband Robert Hendricks; daughter Lisa Hendricks; daughter in infancy; son in miscarriage; sister Linda Hecht in infancy; brother-in-law Reverend James Larson; sister-in-law and her husband Dorothy and Lou Haanen; and brother-in-law Jim Hendricks.
