Dec. 7, 2014 - Kenneth John Petersen, 68, of Hutchinson, passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, at his home in rural Hutchinson. Memorial service was at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.
Clergy officiating was Pastor Gerhard Bode. Organist was Dr. Joan Devee Dixon. Soloist was Bobbi Ludewig, who performed, “Amazing Grace.” Congregational hymns were “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Precious Memories.”
Kenneth John Petersen was born Jan. 8, 1946, in Hutchinson. He was the son of Richard and Marie (Rannow) Petersen. Kenneth was baptized as an infant in 1946, at Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Hutchinson and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth, March 22, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynn Township, Hutchinson and was reconfirmed Aug. 15, 1965, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Mills Township, Meeker County. He received his elementary education in country school District 81 in rural Stewart, attended Lester Prairie, Minnesota Public School from grades 3-5, and was a graduate of the Hutchinson High School Class of 1963.
On June 5, 1965, Kenneth was united in marriage to Brenda Wegner at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Mills Township. This marriage was blessed with three sons, Corey, Troy and Jay. Kenneth and Brenda resided in Cedar Mills from 1970-1983. In 1983 they moved to their home at Stahls Lake. In 2011, Kenneth and Brenda moved to rural Hutchinson. They shared 49 years of marriage.
Kenneth owned and operated Petersen Service Center in Cedar Mills. Kenneth was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. He was also a member of the Cedar Mills Gun Club, Gopher Campfire Club, Minnesota Grain and Feed Association for 44 years. He was a charter member of Cedar Mills Lions.
Kenneth enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in his shop and playing cards. He loved helping his children and tried not to miss any of his grandchildren’s school activities. Kenneth was generous to all who knew him. He enjoyed his job and wouldn’t miss a day of work. Kenneth especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Kenneth passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, at his home in rural Hutchinson, at the age of 68 years.
He will be missed by many.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Brenda Petersen of rural Hutchinson; children, Corey Petersen and his wife, Ann of Hutchinson, Troy Petersen and his wife, Becky of Hutchinson, Jay Petersen and his wife, Tracie of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Hunter, Ally, Leyton, Avarie, Ellie, Hudson and Jozie Petersen; sister, Sonja Fruetel of Cosmos; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Marie Petersen; brother-in-law, Lenard Fruetel.
The family invited everyone to the luncheon at the church immediately following the service.
