She was born June 30, 1925, in Silver Lake, to Martin and Ella (Rivers) Knoll. She spent her childhood and earlier years living on the farm.
Eventually, she met James Wanous and the two were joined in marriage April 18, 1944, at St. Joseph Church in Silver Lake. Together they raised seven children.
Rose was known for her warm and caring personality. She was happiest taking care of her family. Always wearing an apron, she would often cook large meals for her family and friends, making sure everyone was well fed and took home leftovers to enjoy the next day. Not only was she a great cook, she was also skilled in canning everything from strawberries and raspberries from her garden, to various meats from the farm.
She loved to dance, play cards and tend her bountiful gardens. When she would find time, she would knit, crochet and quilt many projects for her friends and family.
She will be missed and survived by her children, Millie (Butch) Kunkel of Darwin, Shirley Miller of Hutchinson, Robert (Melissa) Wanous of Hutchinson, Larry (Linda) Wanous of Cokato, Harry Wanous of Texas and Jolene (Dale) Kosek of Silver Lake; 21 grandchildren; several great and great-great-grandchildren; sister Bernice Retzlaff; brother Leroy (Marion) Knoll; half sister Carol (Larry) Walz; stepsister Artis (Harold) Shriner; stepbrother Clinton Webb; sister-in-law Vera Knoll; and many other relatives and friends.
